Commitment: Thanks to advancements in veterinary medicine, we can do a lot to improve the quality of our pets’ lives. At Bethany Family Pet Clinic, we are always looking for ways to make preventative care better and more affordable. For example, over the last two years, we have reduced the cost of dental cleaning by an average of $100 per pet. We also reduce the fee for vaccines by 20% during annual exams. Each year, we run a heartworm clinic that decreases the cost of testing for heartworm disease. And, we are currently working on new programs to improve screening and testing for senior pets at lower rates.
We are continually learning more about preventing animal disease and injury. Plus, the more we learn about human health, the more we can relate those new ideas to pet health. Roughly 90% of human health care costs occur in the last few years of life. While this kind of data has not been collected for the veterinary industry, we do know that aging pets tend to have more health issues than their younger counterparts. We also know that a number of diseases can be prevented, and that we can extend quality and quantity of life through:
- Proper nutrition
- Weight management
- Good dental hygiene
- Annual blood, urine and fecal screening
- Regular checkups
- Parasite control
- Timely vaccinations
